Welcome to the Lee Ritenour Six String Theory Rhythm Section Competition!  We look forward to hearing some diverse and amazing talent from around the world!

Competition Registration Opens January 15, 2014 and Closes May 15, 2014. Winners Announced June 1, 2014!

We want to see 2 YouTube videos (no more than 5 min/each; no camera stops) of you playing with your band, a solo arrangement, duet performance, or trio that showcases your skills. Instruments are:  Bass, Piano/Keyboards or Drums. Rhythm players may enter in any contemporary music genre such as jazz, blues, r & b, rock, fusion, etc.)  A Rhythm player may register in more than one genre of the rhythm competition but must register with a different email address and pay the $25 registration fee for each. A Rhythm player may also register in the Guitar Competition if he or she plays guitar as well. Lastly, if you are registering as part of a duo or trio in the Rhythm Competition, you will only need one email registration. There will be fields for other players information.

Applicants should be “non-professional” or “semi-professional” defined as not making your full-time, sole income from being a musician (see Rules for further details). We are looking for originality & performance, so send us something unique and inspiring that displays your musicianship and your virtuosity!

How To Sign Up:

  • Prepare 2 videos (5 min maximum per video, no camera stops) and upload them to www.youtube.com.  Before you register,  you should already have uploaded your 2 videos to YouTube and have the links ready to provide during the registration process.
  • It is permissible to submit a solo instrument track as one of the two videos. We do recommend the other video be performing with a band of some configuration.
  • Backing Tracks- both guitar and rhythm applicants may use backing tracks. Preferably they would be original backing tracks (or by musicians associated with the applicant) to demonstrate originality and style. But technically an applicant may use backing tracks that aren’t original.
  • Go to the “SIGN UP” section to fill out our online application and submit your $25 application fee.  On the form, along with your contact information, you will  also provide musical genre,  short BIO of your music history, if you’re interested in Berklee College of Music scholarship, your 2 YouTube video links, etc.
  • Please Note:  When registering, you will be prompted on whether you’re registering as a solo, duo or trio. However, only 1 person out of the duo or trio must register. There will be fields for additional players information under the single registration.

3 OPTIONS FOR RHYTHM SECTION:

  1. SOLO (Individual) – $25 application fee
  2. DUET (keyboards & bass; drums & bass, or any combination) – $50 application fee
  3. TRIO (keyboards, bass & drums) – $75 application fee

Our panel of Advisory Board judges headed by Dave Grusin will evaluate the videos and determine the winners, who will be announced on or before June 1st, 2014.
